Dr. Darlie Koshy held top Management positions as MD of Kerala State Handloom Development Corporation, Chairman of Kerala Garments, 1st General Manager of the National Handloom Development Corporation, etc. between 1977 to 1987 before moving into academics, as a founding faculty member and Head of Fashion Management Studies at NIFT, New Delhi from 1987-2000 after being trained in FIT, New York from 1987-1988.
Dr. Darlie O Koshy an MBA from CUSAT with University rank and PhD from IIT, Delhi headed NID as Director and member of the Governing Council for 2 terms of office (2000-2008) before the current assignment. During his tenure, he has been involved in all round transformation of NID, including setting up of NID’s R&D Campus in Bangalore and a PG Campus for specialised PG Programmes at Gandhi Nagar apart from setting up India’s first Design Business Incubator in collaboration with the Ministry of Science & Technology, GoI. Dr. Koshy’s initiative and formulation of draft resulted in the first National Design Policy approved by the Government of India in February 2007.
Dr. Darlie Koshy is serving / has served as a Member on the boards in International bodies, Apex industry associations, Export promotion councils and Central /State Govt. /Planning Commission committees, etc. Dr. Darlie Koshy has served on the Board of National Council of Science Museums, International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID), Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India Ltd, New Delhi, Indian Institute of Crafts & Design, Jaipur, Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI) NOIDA, National Centre for Jute Diversification (NCJD), Calcutta, National Technology & Innovation Committee of CII & CII Task Force on Design & Innovation, Pt. Dwarka Prasad Mishra Indian Institute of Information Technology Design & Manufacturing, Jabalpur, Fashion Design Council and several others. Currently he is member on the EC of AEPC, and BOG of ATDC & IAM. He is also on the Advisory Board of Lakme Fashion Week. He has been serving the Board of Pantaloon Retail Industries Ltd, part of Future Group since 1999 as an independent non-executive Board Member.
Dr. Koshy is the author of three significant books on International Marketing and Design Management, 2 monographs and has made numerous presentations, in India and overseas. Dr. Koshy's contribution to design & management education and promotion has been recognized by being named twice as one of "50 leaders reshaping Indian education" by Education World, The Human Development Magazine (Nov. 2006 and 2008) and has also been felicitated with the B M Das Memorial Citation in 2006 by CLRI, Chennai for his contribution "to the generation and development of knowledge as an applied researcher". Dr. Koshy also received the Delhi IIT Alumni Award for contribution of National Development in 2008 apart from the acclaimed "Premio II Ponte 2008 Award" for contribution to Design for Development, instituted by the Fondazione Europea Guido Venosta, Milan Italy. Dr. Darlie Koshy was also conferred with the "Star of Italian Solidarity” one of the highest civilian awards of the Government of Italy in March 2009.
